Clint Mason, Head Coach

Coach Mason enters his fifth season with a lot of excitement for the Lady Bulldogs after leading last year's team to a record of 27-8 and a trip to the National Championship game. Coach Mason now posts an 86-48 career record as a head coach. Coach Mason made his way to Cumberland from Belmont University, where he served one season under Tony Cross, helping guide the Bruins to a 19-10 record and a semifinal tournament loss to Central Florida in the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament.

Prior to that, Coach Mason served as the Women's Assistant at Mercer University, another NCAA Division I-A school located in Macon, Georgia. While at Mercer, Coach Mason served as the recruiting coordinator along with scouting and coaching the post players. Coach Mason assisted Sharon Baldwin (who now serves as Head Coach at East Carolina) in turning a program around from six wins the season prior to their arrival into a team winning 16 games.

Coach Mason joined Coach Baldwin at Mercer from Life University, where he was in charge of recruiting, scheduling, housing and coaching the post players. While at Life University, Coach Mason assisted in leading the program to a record of 53-14 in two years, a No. 1 national ranking in 2000-2001 along with a record of 31-3. Prior to that, Coach Mason served one season under Coach Bobby Hudson at Volunteer State Community College, working with both the Men's and Women's programs. Coach Mason also served as a Graduate Assistant at Austin Peay State University under Susie Gardner, who now serves as an assistant coach at the University of Florida.

Coach Mason hails from Greenbrier, Tennessee, where he attended Greenbrier High School, playing basketball for his father, Tommy Mason. While at Greenbrier, Coach Mason set the school record for career scoring average with 23.4 points per game. Upon his graduation from Greenbrier, Coach Mason played at Volunteer State Community College for two seasons. During those two seasons at Volunteer State, Coach Mason averaged 12 points, six rebounds and five assists per game. After Volunteer State, Coach Mason transferred to Austin Peay State University, playing on a squad that captured an Ohio Valley Conference championship and a birth into the NCAA National Tournament in 1996, losing to Georgia Tech in the first round.

Coach Mason earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Health and Human Performance/Sports Administration from Austin Peay State University. He is married to Nicole Mason, who is a teacher and a coach at Southside Elementary School. Coach Mason and Nicole have two sons, Carter Cole and Caden Cross.
