Summer Jazz Camp

Cumberland University School of Music and the Arts presents the 14th Annual Summer Jazz Camp.  It will be held June 14-17, Monday-Thursday, at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tennessee. The camp is for high school, college, and adult instrumentalists who are interested in learning more about improvising and playing jazz. Many Mid-State and All-State Jazz Band Members have attended the camp in the past. Students from throughout Tennessee and the Mid-South Area have participated in the camp each year.

  • How to improve your jazz sight reading ability. How to learn and remember scales.
  • Jazz Styles, Basic Musicianship, Preparing for Auditions. Jazz Harmony & Theory.
  • Applying Jazz Theory to your instrument. Learning to play what you hear
  • Important books for studying jazz. Important recordings by great jazz masters.

Glenn Martin has been a guest conductor and clinician at jazz events throughout the Southeast and other areas of the US.   His jazz arrangements and compositions have been played by high school, college, and professional groups throughout the U.S., including events such as The Mid-West Band and Orchestra Conference, The Tennessee All Mid-State Jazz Band, The Tennessee Music Educators Conference, and at the U.S. Capitol Building by the United States Marine Band. Mr. Martin has taught Jazz Improvisation, Jazz Band, Music Theory, Orchestration, Sight Singing & Ear Training, Brass Methods and Trombone at the university and secondary levels. As a high school director he conducted award-winning jazz bands. He is active as a jazz trombonist and arranger/composer in the Nashville area.    Mr. Martin currently teaches at Cumberland University in Lebanon.
