Master of Science in Sport and Exercise Pedagogy

Cumberland University is offering a unique graduate degree that has a foundation of pedagogy in Sports and Physical Education. 

Graduates of this program will have unique and marketable knowledge and skills to further careers in physical education, coaching, sport management and exercise science.  The 36-hour program, composed of a core curriculum of 27 hours + a specialization between 12-18 hours* can be completed in less than two years.

Students have the option of choosing between the following three specializations:

        I.            Physical Education (advanced pedagogy or initial licensure)*,

      II.            Sport Management, or

    III.            Sport & Exercise Science

(*Note: This program is intended to provide students the option of pursuing teacher certification regardless of undergraduate degree area.  Students pursuing initial licensure are required to take 6 credit hours of research and 18 credit hours in the physical education specialization.)

Tuition and Fees

Tuition: $450.00 per semester hour
Application Fee (non-refundable): $50.00 (one time fee)
Graduation Fee:  $225.00 (subject to change; due semester of graduation)
Textbook and Supplies:  Will Vary by course, however ALL students are required to purchase SPSS

 Program Requirements

Program Requirements - For all programs:

  • Financial assistance through student loans may be available for degree-seeking candidates.
  • All specializations have an online component, which REQUIRES Internet access and an e-mail address.
  • All students must purchase a single person use for the program SPSS.
  • All degree seeking students must complete a comprehensive examination in the last semester of work.
  • All degree-seeking students must complete an Intent to Graduate form at least one full semester prior to graduation.

 

 Admissions requirements

  • Submit a graduate application; along with $50 application fee;
  • Submit official transcripts from ALL colleges and universities attended; Degree must be received from a Regionally Accredited University;
  • Submit a copy of teaching certificate, if applicable;
  • Submit OFFICIAL copy of Graduate test scores. These must be directly from the Testing Service: GRE 290 (new scale) or better with a 4.0 on the writing assessment; or MAT score of 380; OR if a incoming student has a current teaching certificate (license) this may be used in place of the GRE or MAT;
    • Anyone seeking an initial teacher's license must complete a traditional student teaching semester (requiring residence in or near Lebanon, TN. Other state and university requirements  apply. Please contact the Licensure Officer with questions;
  • Submit completed financial aid form if necessary.
